I have three boys, who haven't yet reached young adult. So, I haven't investigated a whole lot the non-fiction section for that age group. Although I just reviewed a great book that fits this level The Frog Catcher by Pamela Turner. I actually read it with my boys and they all liked it in some shape or form.

I wonder if a lot of the non-fiction for this age group is geared towards writing reports for school? I think possibly parents, teachers, and even publishers tend to think that non-fiction is for reports and not for pleasure reading.

Anyway, my boys have always been and continue to be huge non-fiction fans, so I hope that we will be able to find books that will continually interest them as they get older. We just checked out a book about aircraft carriers and thankfully our library system seems to have a good variety to choose from. I'm not sure how fascinating they are at the teen level though.

Thanks for the insight!

It's so important to draw attention to reading, and attract reluctant readers to it,especially boys.

I grew up as a reluctant reader, in spite of the fact that my father published over 70 books. Now I write action-adventures & mysteries, especially for tween boys, that avid boy readers and girls enjoy just as much.

My blog, Books for Boys http://booksandboys.blogspot.com is dedicated to drawing attention to the importance of reading.
