Lola is a tiny, but very real Yorkshire Terrier who works as a therapy dog with author Marcia Goldman. Their newest book, Lola Goes to the Doctor
Young children may not know what to expect during a doctor’s visit or may feel fear, but might not know how to express it. This gentle little dog helps children learn the procedures to expect during a typical visit to a doctor’s office and also to learn terms like “scared” and “brave” to help express the feelings they may be having.
The book is illustrated with a series of color photographs of Lola posed in the waiting room, in the room with the doctor receiving various steps of her exam, and again in the waiting room.
Although the topic is serious, the author uses a touch of humor where appropriate. For example, the reader will likely be surprised and delighted to discover the other animals that are waiting for the doctor.
Parents and teachers will want to turn to the Curriculum Guide in the end before sharing the book. The author has included Focus Words, suggested Questions, and Activities, all appropriate for this age range.
