All About Dogs

This week we are going to the dogs, so to speak. If you enjoyed Shep, you might also be interested in these books about dogs.

First up is a nonfiction picture book that features the most adorable dog breed ever, All about Chihuahuas by Erika L. Shores.

Did you know that chihuahuas are the smallest breed of dog in the world? Looking in the glossary, you see definitions for words like sassy and spunky. I don’t think those will be in the glossary of some other breeds of dogs.

Part of Capstone’s new Dogs, Dogs, Dogs series, the book is illustrated with huge, full-color photographs paired with carefully-controlled text.

All about Chihuahuas will be a must for children whose family owns a chihuahua, but will also appeal to any child who is interested in dogs and wants to learn more about them.

Another great book for kids interested in dogs is Show Me Dogs: My First Picture Encyclopedia by Megan Cooley Peterson. This reference book contains over 100 terms related to dogs that are organized by subject and accompanied by matching color photographs, including one of a mother dog giving birth.

Subjects covered range from “What Are Dogs?” to “Dogs on the Job.” Ever hear of a chiweenie? You can find out that it is a cross between a chihuahua and a dachshund in the “Designer Dogs and Mutts” section.

What a fun way to learn about dogs! This is a reference kids will want to go back to over and over.
